News | St John's Dapto : With Faith, Trust and a Little Bit Of Pixie Dust

Posted 18 October 2017 by Catholic Education in News

What a magical and professional performance from the students at St John's Catholic Primary School Dapto, as they brought to life the musical production of Disney's Peter Pan Jr earlier this month at Roo Theatre.

There appeared to be not a hiccup (although as all performers know, that would be a rare occurrence). But whether singing, dancing, acting ... or dashing out like ninjas as the lights dimmed to rearrange the stage, it was clear that every student was committed to making the show the best they possibly could. And from an audience perspective it was hard to believe that this was a Primary School production.

This may be the only chance some of these children ever get to experience the thrill of being part of a live production; a reward for the many hours of hard work, on school afternoons and during school holidays, by a talented and dedicated group of staff, students and parents. And for those already immersed in the world of the performing arts, what a wonderful opportunity to share their talents and experience with colleagues, school friends and school community.

Congratulations St John's!

A WORD FROM THE DIRECTORS ...

St John's Catholic Primary School are very proud to welcome you to their new musical production, Disney's Peter Pan JR. Based on the Disney film and JM Barrie's enchanting play, Disney's Peter Pan JR is a modern version of the timeless tale about a boy who wouldn't grow up. After considering a number of possibilities, we decided to settle on this magical adventure.  Our love of performing and directing shows continues to grow, following the great success of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.  For many years we have both shared a love of performing and directing shows, and we took this opportunity to once again work with the exuberant students of St John's.

Again, we are extremely proud to have united students from the Evangelist Campus to create our student cast and crew! We feel quite fortuitous to have had a whole team of directors, choreographers and an extended production crew all actively involved throughout the whole process to ensure that St John's production of Peter Pan JR came to fruition.  Of course, this would never have been possible without the involvement of the staff of St John's , with their contributions of time, talent and patience.  We would also like to thank our families for their love and support while we have been so focused on this production.

We have watched students' self-confidence grow as they have viewed themselves in new roles and different contexts.  We have seen them work together as a team, learn, make new friends and demonstrate commitment and focus and, of course, have fun! Our main goal was to make Disney Peter Pan JR an exciting, challenging but rewarding and memorable experience for the students, and it is so heartening to know that this feeling has radiated through the entire cast.  We believe all of these qualities are so vitally important in shaping out students as productive individuals! Thank you to the wonderful parents of St John's who have supported their children and enabled us to work with them throughout the year.  We are so proud of what we have achieved!
